When we first laid our eyes on Moon Juice and its plant alchemy powders — also known as “Dusts” — we couldn’t make heads or tails of it. Growing up, we were familiar with Traditional Chinese Medicine and bitter black herbal soups that our mother made us drink every once in awhile “for [our] own good”. But Amanda Chantal Bacon’s discreetly luxurious versions of grounded schisandra berries, ashwagandha roots and more — all prettily packaged in glass jars bearing matte labels and cosmic motifs — was on another planet.
For one, we never thought of herbs as “lusty” or edible tools of attraction. But the reasoning behind them was solid. Before launching her brand, Amanda suffered from a lifetime of health issues like poor sleep, anxiety and allergies. Determined to change her lifestyle the right side up, Amanda transformed her diet, infusing it with medicinal foods, greens and hormonal adaptogens. Months in, she felt the difference in her personality, immune system and appearance. So she set out to spread the word.
Taking her conscious diet to the next level, Amanda decided to get high. How? By supercharging her beverages with herbal powders for mental stamina, inner wellness and yes, “creative energy, in and out of the bedroom.” After that, her business blew up.
Though she received an onslaught of negative press and criticism for her seemingly fluffy approach to healthy living — especially after her food diary went viral — the appeal and genuine interest for her recipes of high-functioning foods were just as intense, if not more. Just like that, Moon Juice made its mark on the beauty landscape with Moon Dusts as its signature product.
Perhaps what sustains Moon Juice and imbues it with a refreshing sense of vitality is the fact that Amanda sees it not as a business, but a platform to educate consumers about the herbs that changed her life. And before you pigeonhole her as an alternative, free-spirited, vegan guru with her head in the clouds, just know that she’s also a former fine dining chef, single mother, crazy successful business owner and CEO of her own company. Amanda isn’t dreaming — she’s on a mission to have your ear on authentic, conscious living.
Moon Juice’s line-up of their signature Moon Dusts — the juggernaut of edible wellness that shook the beauty world — including her favourite: Sex Dust
Moon Juice has grown from a company that reinvented cold-pressed juices to one that is well known for offering adaptogenic concoctions for body, beauty and consciousness. What was your inspiration?
The inspiration was to provide the absolute best quality health products in a setting that is aesthetically pleasing. On a personal level, I wanted to be a part of a movement that is changing the way food is produced and consumed. I wanted to go to work every day and be excited to put the best stuff in my body and that of my child’s.
Tell us about adaptogens and their benefits.
Adaptogens are herbs, mushrooms, and minerals that help our body better respond to stress. These potent allies work by reducing stress hormone-induced (cortisol) cellular damage and improving moods, boosting immunity and reducing fatigue. I highly suggest making them a daily practice for profound benefit, which is easy and delicious when you set yourself up for it.
I spike my food and drinks with adaptogens all day long — a teaspoon of ashwagandha in my tea, a teaspoon of cordyceps in my shake.
What do you usually have for breakfast, and do you take any daily supplements?
Two Quinton Hypertonics, a warm protein, Power Dust and a maca smoothie. I supplement my potion making and consumption with vitamin D, Thyrostim, L-Theanine, GABA (gamma-Aminobutyric acid), krill oil and pregnenolone.

What about your general diet?
I eat a lot of organic plants, nuts and seeds throughout the day. In warmer weather, I include a lot of raw foods. In cooler weather, I go for warming broth foods. I’m heavy on greens and good fats, and since I have a hypothyroid condition, I avoid cow milk, wheat and minimise refined sugars.
I prefer to eat when I’m hungry and let my body dictate what it needs and how much. There are days when I want to eat a lot and other days that don’t require more than grazing. There are times when my body really wants fattier foods like avocados, coconuts, seeds and goat milk yogurt; and other times when seaweed soup, fermented veggies and sweet potatoes do the trick.
One ingredient I always avoid is sugar. And I always have fermented veggies, nori wraps, ghee, microgreens, coconut flour, Himalayan pink salt, apple cider vinegar, maca, cacao, cordyceps, avocados, frozen strawberries and organic stevia on-hand at home.
If I snack, I’ll have raw, activated, stone ground nut or seed butter. I will literally drink it out of the jar when hungry and on the go. And if I need to reset, I’ll have high plant protein, good fat foods, fermented foods and green foods. I’ll drastically cut out sugars, grains and caffeine when I feel foggy and icky.
If you had to pick one favourite Moon Dust, which would it be, and why?
It must be the Sex Dust! I use it as a buzzy, feel good energy formula in place of coffee — and sometimes even in a coffee!
Personally when I travel, I take an assortment of the individual Full Moon Dust Sachets to make sure I am prepared for any situation. Beauty Dust is important after long flights. Dream Dust is also great for sleeping well on the go.
When I am preparing for an important meeting, I love to combine Power Dust and Sex Dust to give me a boost and make me feel empowered and ready for anything.
Do you have any guilty pleasures?
I can’t say I feel guilty about them but I don’t like to wear sunscreen (of course, I don’t let myself burn). My son and I eat dark chocolate for breakfast some mornings, and I curse daily. These things bring me a lot of pleasure!

Moon Juice advocates for cleanses and offers a range of them. What advice would you give someone who has never tried a cleanse?
Assess where you are in your lifestyle, what type of experience you want to have, and what you have room and time for. Cleansing is not a ‘one size fits all’ approach. Depending on your own unique situation, simply adding plant food to your diet might be cleansing enough.
If you’re going for a juice cleanse, think of flooding your body with vitamins, minerals and enzymes versus starving yourself, which will shut down organ functions, brain activity and metabolism. Choose 100 per cent organic, nutrient dense juices with lots of greens and veggies to avoid sugar highs and the inevitable crash. You also want to drink enough in one day. We recommend at least six 16 oz (approximately 470 ml) bottles of juices and nut milks. If you start feeling spacey or weak, add more juice. From this place of knowing, the body is being nourished and all systems are going. Feeling spacey and experiencing flu-like symptoms are actually part of the cleansing process. There is light at the end of the tunnel on day three!
Juicing and eating raw will make you feel so clean on the inside that it’ll show in your skin. You’ll have a complete makeover in your outlook on life. Veggies with the highest nutritional value will help you achieve glowing skin, sparkly whites of the eye, a renewed digestive system, tons of energy, happiness and libido.
What’s the best juice to have everyday?
A green juice with a chunk of ginger.
Tell us about your beauty routine.
I have Odacité’s Clair de Lune Radiance Serum on at all times. I apply Juice Beauty’s Phyto-Pigments Ultra-Natural Mascara for extreme circumstances and I have a serving of Beauty Dust in warm water every day. It’s a blend of powdered tonic herbs that increases collagen and silica production, tones and firms tissue; and fortifies skin, hair, nails and cell membranes from the inside out. It’s one of my favourite things, along with acupuncture, clay face masks and B-12 shots.
I also like Odacité’s Synergie Immediate Skin Perfecting Beauty Masque. Or I’ll apply a honey and pearl powder on my face at night.
The Moon Dusts also come in The Full Moon Satchets — just add to your beverage and drink up
What about your sleep routine?
I’m making a huge effort to clock at least seven hours of sleep a night. This includes setting an alarm to tell me to start tuning out, having a cup of Dream Dust, spraying magnesium oil on my body and laying on my BioMat.
Do you practice any self-care rituals?
I meditate daily, which usually means I’ll pull over and take 20 in my parked car. It’s all about the stolen moments and being able to drop into deep rejuvenation in the midst of chaos. My favourite spiritual practice is sitting quietly long enough that the thoughts disappear and I am again aware of the many layers of miracles around me at every moment.
I also always spend three to five minutes deeply nourishing myself by making an adaptogenic smoothie. This only takes 25 minutes a day but it’s life changing and sustaining! Afterward I always feel like superwoman, ready to take on the world!
How do you define wellness?
Feeling deeply comfortable and connected to a source.
Complete this sentence: Being free means…
Having a fully open heart despite what happens in a day or night, and staying aligned with that openness and not letting anyone or anything cause you to shut it down.
